Antiscia

Antiscia

This window calculates the antiscia and contra-antiscia of objects.

In astrology, antiscia and contra-antiscia are mathematically computed points that reveal hidden or shadow connections between planets based on their symmetry relative to the main axes of the zodiac. They are not classical degree-based aspects, but act as “secret” aspects.

What is an Antiscum

An antiscum (from Greek “opposite”, “to equalize”) is the mirror reflection of a planet’s position relative to the solstice axis (the axis of 0° Cancer — 0° Capricorn).

Points located symmetrically about this axis have the same length of daylight (the same declination).

How it works: If planet A is at the exact degree of the antiscum of planet B, a hidden connection arises between them, equivalent in strength to a conjunction.

Meaning: The antiscum symbolizes the “shadow” of a planet. It points to secret cooperation, hidden support, non-obvious talents, or events happening “behind the scenes.” In synastry (compatibility), antiscia produce a deep attraction and harmony that is not always obvious to those around.

Antiscum sign pairs: Gemini–Cancer, Taurus–Leo, Aries–Virgo, Pisces–Libra, Aquarius–Scorpio, Capricorn–Sagittarius.

What is a Contra-Antiscum

A contra-antiscum is the mirror reflection of a planet’s position relative to the equinox axis (the axis of 0° Aries — 0° Libra). The contra-antiscum is always in exact opposition (180°) to the antiscum.

How it works: A contra-antiscia connection is equivalent to a hidden opposition.

Meaning: If the antiscum represents hidden cooperation, the contra-antiscum represents hidden opposition, shadow rivalry, or intrigue behind one’s back. In compatibility, contra-antiscia often indicate hidden antipathy or contradictions that only surface over time and may lead to disharmony.
