Creating, Editing, and Saving Events

In the ZEUS astroprocessor, you can manage events in several ways. The program provides three different tools for saving information, each serving a specific purpose.

Creating and Editing Events

The event editor window allows you to enter new data or modify existing entries. You can open this window in three ways: by double-clicking an event row in the dial control panel, via the main menu (“Session” → “New Event”), or through the dial menus (“New” / “Edit”).

In this window, you enter basic data: name, date, time, and location. When typing a city, the built-in Atlas offers suggestions to automatically fill in the coordinates. If the required city is not in the database, you can enter the coordinates and the GMT offset manually. Note that if you don’t change the time difference, the event will remain tied to the time zone of the previously selected location.

Additionally, users can leave comments and select an event type, such as “Natal”. The event type does not affect the mathematical calculation of the chart, but it is actively used for sorting and searching within the database. For natal charts, you can specify the native’s gender, the Rodden rating for data reliability, and check a box if the chart has been rectified.

A created event can be instantly saved to the database by clicking the floppy disk icon; it will be saved to the current working file (by default !Default or the last opened one). The “Create” button initiates the chart rendering in the corresponding dial. The current event of any dial is always available for saving via the “Save” option in the dial’s own menu.

Event Pool

The Event Pool is located in the left panel of the program and contains data that has been loaded, created manually, or generated by the program. Events that have already been saved to the main database are highlighted in the Pool with a different color for visual distinction.

The system supports several useful automation features:

• Auto-save Events: New or edited data is automatically placed in the Pool.
• Auto-save Reference Events: When building derived charts (e.g., a Solar Return), the background source data remains in the top panel, while the calculated Solar Return event is sent to the Pool.

Even if you forget to transfer data from the temporary Pool to the main database, the program automatically saves it to a system file upon closing. The next time you launch ZEUS, all temporary events will be fully restored.

Through the Pool’s context menu, you can transfer events to the main database, delete them, or clear the entire list in one action. For bulk operations, you can select multiple rows using the SHIFT key (for adjacent items) and CTRL/Cmd (for arbitrary items). The context menu also allows you to calculate specialized charts: Solar Equation charts, Davison Relationship charts, and Composites, using the selected events. For better organization, the Pool supports creating multiple thematic tabs (e.g., for clients and research), which can be managed by clicking on the header.

Database

The Database is designed for cataloging and long-term storage of information. It can be accessed from the main menu, the editor window, or the dial menus. If the database is opened via a dial menu, double-clicking a selected event automatically applies it to that dial.

The database interface is divided into folders and files (in the left pane), which are managed using standard context menu commands, including create, rename, and delete. Entire files or individual events within them can be quickly copied to the Event Pool using the “Load to Event Pool” command. Additionally, there is a criteria-based search system, the results of which can be exported to a separate custom file. Event information can be edited directly both in the Pool and in the database interface.

Session

The Sessions area is located in the left panel below the Event Pool. A session file is intended to completely save your current workflow.

The following information is recorded in a session file:

• Current configuration settings of the program.
• Events, chart types, and the active state of each dial.
• The currently selected dial number and the established aspectation direction.
• The visibility state of control panels.
• On-screen positions of all open dialog windows.

To choose the directory for saving sessions, simply click on the header of this area.
